-The Women were more powerful than the Men in the tribe.
-The boys were not allowed to hunt with the men until they caught an animal of their own!
Important Products:
- Mostly ate/farmed corn, beans, and squash.
- Flattened corn and made it into tortillas.
- Made corn mash to snack on all day
- Also ate alot of meat including Turkey, Rabbit, Fish, Clams, and Oyesters.
-The Iroquois farmed the land they lived on which meant they created gardens which dug up the soil.
-The Iroquois first began cultivating crops in the year 800 in modern day New York.

Culture of Tribe
RELIGION: The Iroquois belived in multiple spirits including the Great Spirit, the Evil Spirit, The Thunderer, and the Three Sisters. The Great Spirit watched over everyone and the Three Sisters were the Spirits of Maize, Beans, and Squash. The Evil Spirit was obviously present and caused "evil" in the world.
GENDER ROLES: Women- Respected by everyone in the tribe. In charge of the longhouse when their husbands were gone. Also in charge of collecting crops including corn, beans, and squash for food. Also made baskets and other necessary tools.
Men- The Warriors, Traders, and Hunters. In charge of protecting not only their family but also the tribe from multiple things including animal attacks and other tribe attacks. Elder Men had the highest respect in the tribe and were treated very well.
The Iroquois Indian tribe is a large trip made up of six smaller tribes including the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora. These tribes are all located in the modern day north-eastern part of the United States.The Iroquois call themselves "Haudenosaunee", which is translated to “people who live in the extended longhouses.” More than twenty families would live in these houses and they would be covered with animal skins to keep the cold air out during the harsh winters. Inside the house was very dark because there were no windows on the side or top.They were also stationary people so they stayed in one area and lived.
Relations With Nearby Tribes
The 6 tribes that make up the " Six Nations" are the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora. They were all located around the modern day north-eastern United States and traded with eachother. The Muskogean tribe, a neighbor of the Iroquois , shared a common dialect with them.
